An interesting quote
I found this quote in a couple textbooks actually-studying for a class project. Some of you might recognize it, but I'm not going to tell you where I found it for now.
What do you think of it? Is this relevant for us today? What about the LOVE of God? Would I worship God if He didn't love me??? Just some thoughts that come to mind as I read.
"O God! If I worship Thee in fear of Hell, burn me in Hell; and if I worship Thee in hope of Paradise, exclude me from Paradise; but if I worship Thee for Thine own sake, withold not Thine Everlasting Beauty."

Wow that is powerful and frightful at the same time as I wonder how often I worship God hoping I've paid my fire insurance from Hell. I also think of the times that I just hope Heaven is real as I worship instead of standing true to God's steadfastness and unfailing promises.
And yes there are those moments when you close your eyes and pray and then feel and know His Wonder! WOW!

Hooray-you figured it out!!
Yes, that quote is part of a poem written by Rabi'a al-Adawiya, a female Sufi Muslim. Sufism is a movement of Islamic mysticism in which this "disinterested love" is an important tradition.
I've been studying a lot about Islam lately, and I'm remembering that there is much Christians can learn from other religions.
